I was born in Sussex, England in 1951 and after some time
spent in Devon I moved to Ireland in 1976.
Together with four friends, I lived on a smallholding
growing organic vegetables commercially, enjoying the
experience of living communally and loving the freedom and
beauty of West Cork.
Then for many years I had a bookshop in Skibbereen, again
run as a shared business and also began to work in schools,
libraries and the Art Centre doing projects with children,
making worlds out of cardboard, paint and clay, which I
loved.
During this time I was weaving and decorating furniture and
then started to paint on wooden panels and canvas.
I have spent the last 5 years painting full time and also
travelling in Europe, a life that makes me very happy.
My pictures nearly always start from memories and emotions.
I love the richness, feeling of stillness, suspension and
possibility in icons, thangkas and medieval European art
and hope to express a similar feeling of a thoughtful
timeless moment in my paintings.
